The Puck Stops Here

Last night was a great playoff game. The Pittsburgh Penguins won in triple overtime to force a game six. They are still losing the series, but they narrowed their deficit to three games to two. Once again, Detroit badly outshot their opposition. This time it was a 58-32 shot margin. Marc-Andre Fleury played well in the Pittsburgh goal. Chris Osgood was not quite so good. Pittsburgh opened the first with goals by Marian Hossa and Adam Hall. Detroit answered back with goals by Darren Helm in the second and Pavel Datsyuk and Brian Rafalski in the third. It looked like Detroit would win the cup, but in the final minute of the third period. Maxime Talbot scored the tying goal. The game went into overtime. Detroit dominated the first overtime outshooting Pittsburgh 13-2, but Fleury pushed aside all the shots. In the third overtime, Petr Sykora scored the game winning goal on the power play with Jiri Hudler in the penalty box. Pittsburgh lives on to game six. Chris Osgood has likely scratched his name off the list of Conn Smythe candidates this year. Every game Detroit has lost in the finals could have been won with MVP goaltending.
