Last Day Races Decided
The NHL has come down to the last day of the regular season. Despite attempts to create parity, all sixteen playoff teams are determined before Sunday's games are played. The Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks and Washington Capitals are the playoff teams. That is already decided. A few first round playoff matches are still to be determined, but that is far less exciting than games that decide if a team makes the playoffs or not. Those games are far less exciting then games that will decide if a team makes playoffs. It's a lack of drama for the final day of the regular season. Don't worry fans. Drama begins on Wednesday with the start of the playoffs.

I think you can safely say that there have been more "to the wire" races this year than in many years; I wish the NHL was keeping the "unballanced" regular season schedule and scrapping the 2 conference playoff system instead!
(#1 should play #16, regardless of the conference or division...#2 vs #15, etc )

Damn Canucks You gotta hate them
I take it you're a disgruntled Canucks fan? Well, I think the first thing you have to do is trade one or both Sedin brothers.....they spend all their time playing together, while forgetting the "team" concept, as long as they are on the same team, that team will go nowhere.
Also, i'd like to say congrats Trevor Linden for a great career...although your time as a Hab was nothing to write home about.

1) ....."Attempts to create parity"... The is NO question that the NHL has achieved the goal of parity/mediocrity.
2) The salary cap and loser points have aided in this. When only 10 points separates the top from the 8th seed in the East, parity is here! Five years ago (Pre-cap/shoot out) the difference between the East's top and 8th seed was 32 points!
3) Many teams got in/out on their last game. Whether that was played Sunday or Friday is irrelevant

Exactly Faux, the parity has been acheived, as I was saying, and yes, it's mediocrity, but, at least the regular season meant something for a change. (So,bettman should be happy at least)
In order to increase the likelihood of meaningful games on the last day of the season (instead of all playoff positions being clinched) there is no reason that all 30 teams cannot be in action that day. that would make it so that teams who clinch in their final game, but on Friday clinch on the last day. And it makes things a bit more fair for playoffs since all teams have the same layoff from the end of the season.
